I distrust the polished, it can't be true or if it is, it is not for me. I am interested in the imperfect, messy, and contradictory, it seems a much more accurate depiction of reality.
My work can be described as provisional, the materials are often incidental, the surfaces rough, the presentation informal. Nevertheless, I want my art to find a legitimate space to exist, a state of being finished in its unfinishedness.
For the collages I combine my own photographs or found images with painting and drawing. In combining the imaginary with the real, the gestural with the digital, and flatness with the illusion of space, I try to tie disparate elements into a confluence of intertwining visual streams.
The paintings develop in the same free associative process, but are more meditative and deliberate having to make do without the energetic collisions of the collages.
